Dear Family and Friends,
Before I get into my health update, I want to thank everyone who participated in the First Annual Coach Luby Golf Classic this past Monday. The turnout, love, and support was amazing. It will certainly be a day my family and I remember forever.
My initial diagnosis was ten months ago. As I said in my original email, there is no easy way to share tough news so here it is: on April 10th, I enrolled in hospice care. I have lost 40 pounds and do not have the strength for additional treatment. The next line of chemotherapy would have come with all the same side effects and only extended my life expectancy by three months. Jennifer and I made the joint decision to live out the life I have left with as much comfort and quality as possible.
Hospice means different things to different people. So far, my hospice care has been a nurse visiting once a week to check on me and help reorder medications. I will no longer get blood work or scans.
I still have a positive upbeat attitude and I’d like to ask the same of you when we interact. In Judaism, the prayer Modim Anachnu Lach indicates how much we value giving thanks. I feel I have a few more “Modim Moments” ahead of me– moments I know will fill me with gratitude and hope. Moments I’m very much looking forward to.
Lots of love,
David
